Surface treatment: Painting and rubber coating

The surface treatment of drive pulleys is essential to extend their service life, prevent corrosion and optimise functionality. With our in-house, manual paint shop, we are able to carry out almost all of the processes described above ourselves. This means that the drive discs can be optimally adapted to your individual operating conditions.

Passivation

In industrial applications, cast drive discs are often exposed to high loads and environmental influences. Targeted passivation protects the surface from corrosion and extends the service life of the components. Special chemical treatments form a protective layer that prevents oxidation of the material and at the same time improves the adhesion of subsequent coatings such as primers or paints. This maintains the functionality and reliability of the drive discs in the long term.

Primer

Priming with a 1K or 2K paint system is standard and serves as a protective layer and adhesion promoter for the final coating. Parameters such as the wet bulb temperature, the dew point and the temperature are recorded in a coating protocol on request and can be documented in a qualified certificate.

1K coating system (one-component system) 2K coating system (two-component system)
Properties Consists of a single component and cures by evaporation of the solvent or by physical drying (air drying). Consists of a base component (lacquer) and a hardener, which are mixed before application. Curing takes place through a chemical reaction.
Advantages Easy to use as no mixing is required High resistance to mechanical stress, chemicals and weathering
Fast drying Longer durability and better corrosion protection properties
Good adhesion and protection for less stressed components High adhesion even on difficult substrates
Disadvantages Lower chemical and mechanical resistance than 2K systems More complex processing due to exact mixing ratios
Less resistant to solvents and high loads Limited processing time after mixing (pot life)
Higher material and cost expenditure
Areas of application Less stressed components or when the focus is on simple processing Highly stressed surfaces that are exposed to high mechanical, chemical or weathering influences

Paintwork

We offer professional painting to protect customised cast drive pulleys. Whether corrosion protection, increased resistance or individual colour coding - we supply customised coating solutions.

Corrosion protection
Cast iron can rust on contact with moisture. Painting protects the surface from oxidation and extends the service life of the disc.

Wear protection
Painting can protect the surface against abrasion and external influences, especially in environments with dust, chemicals or high humidity.

Optical reasons
Painting ensures a uniform and professional appearance (CI colouring), which can be particularly important for visible components. All RAL colours are possible.

Labelling and differentiation
Different paint finishes or colour codes can be used to identify certain specifications or manufacturers.

Improved cleanability
Painted surfaces are often smoother and less porous than untreated cast iron, which makes cleaning easier and reduces the adhesion of dirt.

After drying, the layer thickness is checked and an adhesion test can be carried out, e.g. by cross-cut testing in accordance with DIN EN ISO 2409.

Further surface treatments

Standardised commercial goods from the Far East are usually supplied with a phosphated surface. We can also offer this process for our customised products on request. It is also possible to galvanise or nickel-plate the drive pulleys. We co-operate with local specialist companies for this purpose.

Whether standardised protective coatings or special colour coding - we adapt the coating exactly to your requirements. Contact us and let us develop the optimum solution for your drive pulleys together!

Rubber coating

Coating drive pulleys and tension pulleys with rubber, silicone or polyurethane is a proven method of extending the service life of the conveyor system. A targeted friction coating optimises power transmission, reduces wear and increases operational safety. The risk of slipping is reduced and smooth operation of the conveyor is ensured.

Improved friction
Optimised power transmission between belt and drum.

Wear protection
Increased resistance to abrasion and mechanical stress.

Corrosion protection
Additional protection against moisture and aggressive media.

Belt drums for the food industry

The food industry places the highest demands on hygiene, material compatibility and safety. Our rubber linings fulfil the strict requirements of the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and the BfR (Federal Institute for Risk Assessment) and are specially designed for use in conveyor systems for food processing.

FDA & BfR compliant
Safe materials for direct and indirect food contact.

Colour coding according to industry standard
Available in white, black, blue and other colours for easier identification of contamination.

High resistance
Abrasion-resistant, resistant to cleaning agents and disinfection processes.

Optimised conveyor technology
Improves grip and reduces slippage on conveyor belts.

The rubber coatings used not only guarantee the highest hygiene standards, but also an efficient and durable solution for use in food processing companies.

Customised rubber coatings

We offer various rubber linings to suit your specific operating conditions. In standard applications, the smooth rubber coating ensures even friction. The diamond or herringbone profile of the lagging ensures increased grip in demanding conveying processes. A ceramic coating also achieves high wear resistance under extreme loads. If required, we can also offer oil and grease-resistant rubber coatings.

Depending on the area of application, the rubber coverings are applied to the drums and pulleys using cold bonding or hot vulcanisation in different thicknesses, hardnesses and qualities.
