2-part shrink discs (displacement-controlled) are external clamping elements consisting of a pressure ring and a sleeve. By tightening the clamping screws with a specified screw tightening torque, the pressure ring is pulled axially onto the sleeve. The use of conical surfaces reduces the inner diameter of the sleeve, which applies a radial clamping force to the hollow shaft. The clamping force applied by the shrink disc connection creates a frictional connection at the contact surfaces between the shaft and hub. 2-part shrink discs have a smaller cone angle compared to 3-part shrink discs, this value is in the self-locking.
Due to the small cone angle, it is necessary for the sleeve to have additional push-off threads. With the help of these push-off threads, the pressure ring and sleeve can be easily pressed apart during disassembly. 2-piece shrink discs (displacement-controlled) have a defined displacement, which means that assembly can be carried out also without a torque wrench. The clamping screws of the 2-part shrink disc (displacement-controlled) are tightened evenly in sequence until the face of the sleeve is flush with the face of the pressure ring. The torques specified in the catalog can be transmitted as soon as this assembly condition is reached.
2-part shrink discs have a smaller cone angle compared to the 3-part version, this is located in the self-locking. Due to the small cone angle, it is necessary for the sleeve to have additional impression threads. With the help of these impression threads, the thrust collar and sleeve can be easily pressed apart during disassembly.
2-piece shrink discs (displacement-controlled) can transmit 20%-30% higher torques and are offered in three different versions:
For very small torques and small installation spaces, the TAS 3173 series is suitable.
For high to very high transmittable torques, you can choose between the TAS 3381 and the TAS 3393.
In addition, stainless variants, such as the two-piece shrink disc 3173 1.4122, are available.
Depending on the installation space available to you and the required torque, we will work together to find the right solution for you. We can also offer appropriate solutions for special corrosion protection or low temperature environments.
It is installed by sliding the shrink disc onto the hollow shaft and the subsequent tightening of the screws. By using conical surfaces the inner diameter reduces and the radial pressure is built up. The 33xx range of shrink discs are self-locking. The clamping forces are provided through the screws. They are controlled by path (front faces are flush). The supplied shrink discs are ready for installation. To achieve proper operation with a sufficiently high coefficient of friction, the contact surfaces between shaft and hub must be dry, clean and free of grease.
The
functional surfaces of the shrink disc,
the thread and head rests of the
screws, are equipped at the factory
with lubricant. Molykote G-Rapid
Plus or comparable must be used
as a lubricant. The contact surfaces
between the hub and the bush must
be provided with grease or oil before
installation.
In combination with the simplified handling, the 2-part shrink discs (displacement controlled) have proven themselves in practice, especially in the field of mining and materials handling. However, these shrink discs are used as standard in the entire area of frictionally engaged shaft-hub connections, e.g. in drive technology, the oil and gas industry, the timber industry or hollow shaft gearboxes.
